In celebrating the 8th year anniversary of my journey in fostering Tulisan and the creation its colorful textile editions, my team has prepared a grand surprise for me by granting me Tulisan Artist’s Proofs of all collection since as early as 2015. In my humble opinion, these Artist’s Proofs series should be available for our loyal customers, since their trust and confidence in my work have always been my pillars of support in this passionate journey in textile.

Tulisan Artist’s Proofs are our legal archival impression of every single collection and are not included in the official count of a limited edition. Technically it is the Artist’s approved first batch of the manually printed serigraphy sheets, which are then hand-stitched into the final designs. In some rare instance of unpublished editions, we only have a single copy of these Artist’s Proofs – numbered as {1/1}, like in the case of Celosia Ikat Edition.

I designed Celosia Ikat in 2013, as a tribute to Indonesia’s traditional woven textile. The traditional ikat employs ‘resist dyeing’ method, by bundling the yarn into a tight knot during pigmentation to create an uneven texture before it is woven into a textile. Ikat has become a perishing art since it is an extremely laborious process in this modern time.

As part of my sincere commitment to presenting the very best of my work in art, I always propose multiple concepts to be reviewed by Tulisan’s Art Committee. However, it is Tulisan’s strict policy that only one theme gets to be curated as a collection. After a hard evaluation in 2013, the committee had selected Anima as 2014 edition instead. Since I keep creating fresh work annually, Celosia Ikat has remained to be our valuable unpublished archives.

Tulisan only produced a single copy of Celosia Ikat collection as our archival Artist’s Proof. In the end, Tulisan has finally decided to host a celebration event in making my private Artist’s Proofs available for your personal investment in art. The event will take place at Tulisan boutique in Plaza Senayan, Level 2, on Wednesday, 28 February, 10 am – 10 pm.

Since I am travelling overseas at the moment, I regret that I will not be joining you for this celebration.
