Marigold X4

Melissa Sunjaya drew the ink sketch of Marigold on 10 April 2011, when she collaborated with a French writer, Virginie Kasse, for the book ‘Les Papillons de Victor’. There are many interpretations of this flower in various cultures. Marigold symbolises creativity, passion, and also fragility. Similar to Marigold, Indonesia is rich in artisanal and cultural values. However, there are deep-rooted insecurities within our artisans and makers because of inadequate public appreciations and economic infrastructure in this country. This condition is contrary to the artistic merits achieved by Indonesian ancestors from Ancient Mataram.
