Tulang Ikan X3
Since 2022, I have begun exploring autoethnographic research in my visual mark-makings. I combined drawing personal experiences with observing the current social culture to record any transformations in my surroundings. ‘Tulang Ikan’ Prints Edition is one of my extensive autoethnographic explorations. It started as I observed the detail in a woven basket made of dried water hyacinth and a zigzag composition of brick pavement. The composition structure resembled the bone of a whole Tilapia fish I ate that day, reminding me how nature always inspires us in our craftsmanship. I wish to record this homey sensation through a simple, delightful visual pattern. Unlike my other intricate work, I had to play like a child using wood sticks in creating this ‘Tulang Ikan’. –Melissa Sunjaya
