The “Bungaku” Prints Edition is part of a visual exploration to reclaim cultural identity by revisiting Indonesia’s national flower, the Rafflesia Arnoldii. This rare species is often celebrated for its extraordinary shape and size, yet its very name remains tied to a colonial legacy.

Through Bungaku, Melissa Sunjaya reframes this flower in simple geometric forms, evoking the way we used to draw flowers as children. By renaming it “Bungaku,” she honors this memory, the land that nurtured it, and the people who regard it as part of their natural and cultural heritage.
