OPUS No. 0001

I always realise that my two daughters, as children of a mixed marriage growing up in Indonesia, are raised within duality—living between but never fully belonging to one side or the other. In my journey to understand them, I am reminded of the liminality introduced by Victor Turner (1969), which describes a transitional state where one stands on the threshold of changing identities, transcending the boundaries set by society.
Like brutalist art that rejects decorative beauty in favour of honest essence, I want them to shape their identities in their own way—deconstructing traditions with awareness and courage. As a mother, I wish to gift them something more than cultural heritage—a safe mental space where they can breathe and grow without fear of losing themselves.
To me, a true home is not merely a place but the calm I paint within my heart, in silence filled with love.
