About the Brand

What is Tulisan?

Tulisan is a home of stories told through design. Established in Jakarta in 2010, each creation begins as an original drawing by Melissa Sunjaya. From these hand-drawn lines, we craft editions that celebrate Indonesian imagination and craftsmanship.

Why is it called Tulisan?

In Indonesian, “Tulisan” means handwriting. It is our way of saying that every edition is personal, like a letter written just for you.

What kind of materials do you use?

Hand-printed serigraphy textiles on unbleached (chlorine-free) cotton canvas, using eco-friendly water-based inks. For the handbags and accessories category, unless otherwise noted, each textile is protected with water-resistant Poly-Urethane coatings. Our hand-made production is certified by the Bluesign® system. This certification is a strict screening, designed to monitor the responsible use of resources, clean work processes, wastewater management, healthy air ventilation, and safety procedures for the workers as well as a safe final product for the consumer.

Why choose Tulisan?

Because Tulisan is not just a product. It is an artwork to be carried, gifted, and remembered. Each piece holds a story, and when you bring it into your life,
you continue that story in your own way.

Our Editions

What is Originals Editions?

The Tulisan Originals Editions is where our team debuts new concepts and fresh designs. The Originals Editions is home to our narrative works. Each print features a unique cast of characters, an eccentric setting, and includes a short story. With an emphasis on dreams and love, Tulisan Originals are for anyone who enjoys whimsical storytelling and contemplative prints.

What is Prints Editions?

We have designed TULISAN PRINTS EDITION motifs to be composed manually in an organic layout arrangement (not through a computer program for pattern making), to obtain a unique print impression on every cutting pattern. Each product is different, and it has been our technical specs and brand DNA since we started in 2010. After printing, we rotated the serigraph sheet before cutting, to avoid having uniformity of the print positions. Many hand-labour methods of the printing process also add variants to the diversity of print impressions.

What is Tulisan AIR?

TULISAN AIR (TULISAN Artist In Residence) is a program dedicated to creating a sustainable cycle of art edition for inspiring artists. Our core objective is to support and nurture the artist’s potential during this residency period. We curate the artwork to manifest a collection of limited edition prints, from Giclée to other wearable art pieces which light our homes and delight our souls.
