Mangkok X5
The “Mangkok” Prints Edition is part of the “Made in Java” collection’s visual exploration of simple everyday objects that are deeply intertwined with our cultural identity in Southeast Asia. While main dishes are always served on flat ceramic plates in most Western cultures, staple foods in Southeast Asia are served warm in a curved bowl, called “mangkuk”. For the Indonesian diaspora who have migrated abroad, Asian dishes—such as rice, soto, or noodles—have always been a memory and a comfort when homesick. These geometric silhouettes, semicircles stacked irregularly, become a collective memory that connects us to tradition and our home.
