Description
The Wander Rucksack Max Havelaar Edition revisits the 1860 novel Max Havelaar by Multatuli (Eduard Douwes Dekker), a work that exposed the injustices of colonial exploitation in the Dutch East Indies. This edition transforms that literary protest into a visual meditation on conscience and accountability—asking how stories from the past continue to shape our sense of justice today.
The artwork, hand-pulled in serigraphy, reinterprets 19th century colonial maps and trade symbols into layered abstractions of movement and reform. The contrasting lines and fragmented geometry reflect the moral duality within the narrative: oppression and awakening, privilege and empathy, silence and truth.
Designed for those in constant motion, the Wander Rucksack embodies both exploration and introspection. Its spacious form, reinforced base, and comfortable straps make it ideal for travel or daily use. Crafted from water-repellent unbleached cotton canvas, it carries both resilience and refinement, inviting a mindful approach to modern living.
This edition includes an exclusive 1830 Bag Charm, handcrafted in small quantity in Jakarta. Each piece carries Tulisan’s belief that design can be a living archive of history and care.
