Stop. Look. Go.
With all the turmoil and madness of 2020, we have managed to survive the biggest challenge of our time. It seemed that we rushed through this stressful period furiously fast without any pause. David Steindl-Rast shared his discipline on practising mindful gratitude in our daily life. His approach is a simple three steps: stop, look, and go.
{ Stop }. We need to post ‘stop signs’ in our lives so that we can pause, be alone, and appreciate the present moment. Only through this stillness, we can cancel out all the noise that can harm our inner peace, such as those coming from our digital notifications or social media.
{ Look }. At home, at work, or on the street, claim the space with our positive mind. Look at all things and let them be the way they are, even if they are not what we wish them to be. Do we notice the beautiful imperfections of our surroundings? Do we feel all the senses? What aromas are we breathing? Be grateful for the present experience.
{ Go }. When we have a clear view of the presence, we can slowly reflect on the present moment’s offering. Ask daringly: Is it a moment for us to act without inhibition? Or is it the time we need to give and care? How can we make this moment meaningful? Going through our day is an art that takes continuous practices.
We use our Pepe Doll to be a gentle reminder of this radical self-preservation. It is a hanging bag charm handmade by the abandoned children in Kampus Diakoneia Modern (KDM), a rescue centre for homeless street children. Through this charity program, every Pepe Doll is benefitting a rescued child in need. We can watch David Steindl-Rast’s inspiring TED TALK at this link: https://youtu.be/UtBsl3j0YRQ
