The 2nd of May commemorates Indonesia's National Education Day. The date was chosen after the birthday of Ki Hajar Dewantara, who fought for better and equal education for Indonesia's local people during colonizations.  In honor of the day, I feel much obliged to share some of my favorite movements in education. This week, Melissa packed her Cruise Bag and headed out to New York for Designers&Agents, an independent, international trade fair to showcase some of our most popular styles from the Tulisan Prints collection. The Goods Dept. Pacific Place dedicated their main window display and 12 squared meter retail space for Tulisan. 9.30 pm: Twelve people of Tulisan team started to prepare key ingredients and create magic. 9.45 pm: The Goods Dept. team cleared the space for us to work 10.00 pm: Myra and Didi prepared the props. 10.15 pm: Ariani (Deputy of Production) helped with stuffing in our products, after a long day at the factory. 10.30 pm:  Didi arranged the flowers that went inside the biscuit canisters. Monolog at Senayan, is one of my family's Saturday mornings destination for quality time and coffee. My mom and I would grab our favorite Tulisan totes (hers a Yellow Mustard Beach Bag, mine a Purple Plum Siesta) and bring the girls to have brunch there. The shop operates daily from 7.00 am, like how most bakery in Europe would start. With their fine selection of pastries - crisp layers of croissant and cinnamon rolls - I feel like entering a bakery shop in France. There is a mania sweeping over Tulisan’s office. Everybody is sketch-crazy. It started during a lull betwen waves of flocking visitors on the Camden Market as Suryo sat down and began to doodle. What  started as an idle curiosity soon turned into actions. Melissa give an impromptu lectures on shapes shadings and fluidity of line, while Suryo provide the more technical aspects on how to draw object using grid to get the right proportion of things. Soon everyone in Tulisan, from finance to logistics, was into it. [...]

In one of my trip to Singapore, Myra urged me to pay a visit to Ann Siang Hill Road. She was assured it was an area I would not want to miss. Indeed she was right. Ann Siang Hill Road was a quiet lane across the hustling beat of Chinatown. Myra and I passed the Pagoda Street and, within seconds, the tranquility of the colorful east-meets-west architectures enveloped our steps. The area was named after Chia Ann Siang, a wealthy Malacca-born Hokkien Chinese sawmiller who bought Ann Siang Hill and Mount Erskine area. [...]

Camden Market Pop Up Installation that we held at Grand Indonesia Shopping Mall was one week filled with fun and excitement. It was such a great opportunity to bring Tulisan closer to everyone and of course to meet new people. I enjoyed all bits of Tulisan's Camden Market.
