Sisik Prints Edition is a textile surface design I drew based on fish scales. Since kindergarten, I had always enjoyed drawing the repetitive detail of fish scales. Whilst sketching fish scales has always been meditative for me, the drawing itself offers a calming sense.
Later I learnt that traditional illustrations of fish scales had played a big part in our South East Asian textile history because ancient tribes and kingdoms in our archipelago consisted of many fishing villages.
