Indonesian women have a distinct point of view in managing business and solving problems. However, the practices and policies that many women apply often include marginalised groups whose rights and voices are often set aside in society – including the interests of children, persons with disabilities, senior citizens, and nature. During the pandemic, many fresh startups started by conscience, initiated by women and started simply from homes, such as baking cakes, plants, catering, sewing masks, tutors, and others. With the support of social media networks and new digital platforms, women in business continue to thrive and inspire people that Indonesia will prosper again.
A real example, the Pepe doll is a successful collaboration between Tulisan and the Diakoneia Modern Campus Foundation (KDM) in the last ten years. These dolls are sewn by foster children at KDM, with basic materials and exercises fully sponsored by Tulisan. Melissa Sunjaya wrote this fictional story and created Pepe Project to provide an emotional connection to social issues, especially regarding protection and rights for children. We use the profit of Pepe Doll to help the KDM program in rescuing and fostering abandoned children in Jakarta and its surroundings. Aside from being a beautiful bag charm, every Tulisan collector who buys a Pepe doll gets a 10% discount on a Tulisan bag in the same transaction.
