Madras is Melissa’s visual interpretation of the shared stories between European and Asian textile cultures. Madras refers to a traditional textile craft from the small villages in India, where natural dyes are used to create distinctive checkered patterns. These patterns symbolise the journey of life and timeless beauty. In Southeast Asia, this motif appears in traditional sarongs and bears a striking resemblance to the tartan patterns of Europe.
