‘Methu’
by Melissa Sunjaya
Introducing ‘Methu’ from Tulisan: a visual memoir that seamlessly blends unique illustrations with inspirational narratives. This exclusive serigraphy collection draws inspiration from the monumental work ‘Perempuan-perempuan Perkasa’ by Peter Carey and Vincent Houben, taking us on a journey through culture, history, and anthropology. Crafted with a commitment to sustainability and ethics, each wearable artefact in this collection carries profound stories, inviting us to reflect on and appreciate the richness of cultural heritage.
In the limited edition ‘Methu’, Melissa Sunjaya, artist and founder of Tulisan, revitalises the history of the Javanese war through visually narrated fiction. This artwork collection earned Melissa a spot on the shortlist for the World Illustration Awards (WIA) 2024. With meticulous curation by judges, sponsors, and international organisers, this award recognises the finest illustrations from around the globe. Through this collection, Tulisan continues to enrich the art world with diverse perspectives and experiences, creating works that transcend traditional boundaries and underscore the importance of art as a cultural bridge.
The ‘Methu’ illustration comprises a primary storytelling ‘Originals’ edition called ‘Methu’, and its two additional supporting Prints edition artworks entitled ‘Ajita’ and ‘Gores’.
