Seedpod X5
I became fascinated by the “seedpod” [lotus seed] while observing it floating on the water’s surface. Its perforated form seemed to hold traces of lives that had passed, reminding me of Derrida’s concept of the trace and the absence within meaning (1997). The seedpod is not merely a remnant of something that once lived but also the beginning of a new life—a transition from existence to possibility.
In many cultures, the seedpod is regarded as a symbol of transformation. In Asia, mainly Buddhist teachings, the lotus seed represents the spiritual journey—from darkness to light. This illustration serves as a vessel of memory, capturing something that appears empty yet retains the essence of life. Similarly, every idea that has matured in the creative process will eventually release itself, sowing new seeds into the world to take shape in a different form. The Seedpod Edition is a representation of an ever-evolving concept.
